Miso Glazed Tofu

Ingredients

  • 1 packet high protein tofu (or extra firm)
  • 4 tablespoons soy sauce or tamari
  • 2 tablespoons miso paste
  • 3 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seed oil
  • 1/2 tablespoon garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup nutritional yeast
  • 3 tablespoons corn starch
  • 1/4–1/2 cup water

Preparation

  1. Press the tofu: Start by pressing the tofu to remove excess moisture. Cut the tofu into slices or cubes, and place them between paper towels. Place a heavy object on top to press the water out. Let it sit for about 15-20 minutes.

  2. Prepare the glaze: In a bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, miso paste, maple syrup, sesame seed oil, minced garlic, and nutritional yeast. This will be your glaze for the tofu.

  3. Coat the tofu: After pressing the tofu, cut it into your desired shape. Dip each piece of tofu into the glaze mixture, ensuring they are well coated.

  4. Coat with corn starch: Sprinkle corn starch over the glazed tofu pieces, making sure they are evenly coated. This will give the tofu a crispy texture when cooked.

  5. Cook the tofu: Heat a pan over medium-high heat and add a bit of oil. Place the coated tofu pieces in the pan and cook until they are crispy and golden brown on all sides.

  6. Add water: Once the tofu is cooked and crispy, lower the heat and pour water into the pan. The water will help the glaze thicken and create a sticky sauce. Adjust the amount of water based on how thick you want the glaze to be.

  7. Glaze the tofu: Gently toss the tofu in the pan, allowing the glaze to thicken and coat the tofu pieces evenly. Make sure the tofu is well-coated with the sticky glaze.

  8. Serve: Remove the pan from the heat. Your Miso Glazed Tofu is now ready to be served. It pairs well with brown rice and veggies for a balanced meal.
