Cardamom Almond Biscuits with Rose Water Glaze

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 cup soft butter
  • 1 cup fine granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract

Sugar sauce

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons rose water
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cardamom

For shaping

  • milk
  • almond slices

Preparation

  1. Position the rack in the middle of the oven and preheat the oven to 180°C.

  2. Prepare shallow baking sheets and line them with parchment paper.

  3. On a piece of parchment paper or in a deep plate, sift the flour, cardamom, salt, and baking powder.

  4. In the mixer bowl, place the butter and sugar, attach the paddle attachment, and mix on medium speed for one to two minutes until the mixture is light and creamy.

  5. Add the egg and almond extract, and mix on medium speed until the egg is incorporated.

  6. Add the flour mixture, and mix on medium speed until dough forms and pulls away from the sides of the bowl.

  7. Divide the dough into 4 parts, place one part on the baking sheet and spread it with your fingers to form a rectangle about 3 cm wide and 30 cm long, and repeat with the remaining dough.

  8. Using a wide brush, brush the dough with a little milk and sprinkle with almond slices to cover.

  9. Bake the biscuits for 15 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.

  10. Remove the biscuits from the oven, wait for one to two minutes, then cut into rectangles to your preferred size.

  11. For the sugar sauce, in a small bowl place the powdered sugar, add one tablespoon of rose water, and using a fork stir the sugar while gradually adding the remaining rose water until a smooth and homogeneous sauce forms.

  12. Place the sugar sauce in a small plastic bag or a parchment paper cone and cut a small tip off the bag with scissors.

  13. Drizzle the sugar sauce in decorative lines over the biscuit rectangles and sprinkle with cardamom.

  14. Allow the biscuits to cool completely and the sugar sauce to dry, then serve.
