Smooth Eid Ma'amoul Pastry

Ingredients

Dough

  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup butter, soft
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon rose water

Filling

  • 1/2 cup finely ground pistachios
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon orange blossom water
  • 3 tablespoons sugar syrup

For serving

  • powdered sugar

Preparation

  1. In a bowl, combine all dough ingredients and mix until a smooth dough forms, then chill for at least 30 minutes

  2. In another bowl, mix all filling ingredients until well combined

  3. Preheat oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper

  4. Shape the dough into balls, flatten each, add a spoonful of filling, and seal to form cookies, using a ma'amoul mold if available

  5. Place shaped cookies on the baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes until lightly golden

  6. Remove from oven and let cool, then dust with powdered sugar before serving
