Quick German Quark Puff Pastry Sticks

Ingredients

Filling

  • 250 g low-fat quark
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 packet vanilla sugar
  • 1 medium egg
  • 1/2 packet vanilla pudding powder

Pastry

  • 2 rolls puff pastry (about 270 g)

Egg wash and topping

  • 1 medium egg yolk
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C conventional (180°C fan).

  2. Mix quark, sugar, vanilla sugar, egg, and pudding powder until smooth with a whisk.

  3. Unroll the first sheet of puff pastry.

  4. Spread the quark mixture evenly over the pastry, all the way to the edges, using a cake spatula or palette knife.

  5. Unroll the second sheet of puff pastry and place it precisely on top of the filling.

  6. Place the top pastry layer without pressing.

  7. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

  8. Cut the pastry sheet in half lengthwise with a sharp knife.

  9. Cut each half into 10 equal strips (totaling 20 strips).

  10. Twist each strip gently by the ends with your hands.

  11. Place the strips on the prepared baking sheets with space between them.

  12. Whisk together egg yolk and milk.

  13. Brush the quark sticks lightly with the egg wash.

  14. Bake the sheets one after the other in the oven for about 20 minutes.

  15. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Storage

  1. Store in the refrigerator for at least 3 days.
