Easy Vegan Naan Bread
Ingredients
- 3 cups (375g) All Purpose Flour
- 2 tsp Instant Yeast
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 cup (240ml) + 2 Tbsp (30ml) Warm Water (Not Hot)
- 1 Tbsp (15ml) Maple Syrup
Preparation
Add the flour, yeast and salt to a mixing bowl and mix together.
Add the maple syrup to the warm water and mix in.
Pour the warm water over the flour mix and stir in with a spoon.
Flour your hands and a work surface and knead the dough about 20 times until it forms a ball.
Place the ball of dough into an oiled dish and turn it over to coat with oil, then cover with a cloth and let it rise for 30 minutes.
After 30 minutes, place the dough on a parchment-lined board and cut into 8 pieces.
Heat a non-stick frying pan with a small amount of olive oil.
Roll out each naan into an oval shape and cook in the pan until browned on both sides.
Repeat for the remaining naan breads, adding more oil as needed.
Variations
For garlic naan, dampen the surface with water, add crushed garlic, press it in, and fry as usual.
For butter naan, brush with melted vegan butter during or after cooking, and optionally sprinkle with sea salt.
