Homemade Naan Bread with Yeast
Ingredients
- 1.25 cups warm water
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon instant yeast
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- a pinch of salt
Optional additions
- a pinch of bread improver
Preparation
Mix the warm water, sugar, and instant yeast together until well combined and wait for it to foam.
Meanwhile, combine the all-purpose flour, olive oil, and a pinch of salt in a bowl.
Gradually add the yeast mixture to the flour while kneading until the dough is soft and not sticky to the hands.
Transfer the dough to a large oiled container, cover it, and let it rise for about 30 minutes until it doubles in size.
Punch down the dough to release the air.
Divide the dough into 6-7 small pieces, shape them into balls, and flatten them to about 0.5 cm thick.
Let the flattened dough rise again until it doubles in size.
Cook the dough in a non-stick pan over medium heat until done.
Optional variations
For added cheese or garlic, after flattening the dough, sprinkle cheese on top, fold and reshape into a ball, flatten again, let it rise, and then cook as usual.
Tips
Add the yeast water gradually and ensure the dough is soft and not sticky. Note that not all yeast water may be used.
