Lebanese Nights Sweet Pastry
Ingredients
- 1 packet ready-made puff pastry squares
Filling
- 1 cup milk
- 1/4 cup semolina
- 1 teaspoon orange blossom water
- 1 teaspoon rose water
Glazing
- 1 egg
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
Serving
- Syrup
- Finely ground pistachios
Preparation
In a small bowl, combine the egg and vanilla using a fork and prepare a kitchen brush.
In a medium heavy-bottomed pot, combine milk, semolina, orange blossom water, and rose water. Cook over medium heat, stirring with a wooden spoon until thickened and semolina grains open, then allow to cool completely.
Position the oven rack in the middle and preheat the oven to 180°C.
Prepare a shallow-rimmed baking sheet.
On the counter, place the puff pastry squares and brush them lightly with the egg mixture.
Place 1-2 tablespoons of filling in the center of each square. Fold one corner over the filling, then the opposite corner, and press edges lightly to seal. Arrange on the baking sheet and brush with egg mixture.
Bake for 10-15 minutes until golden brown.
Transfer to a serving dish and sprinkle with syrup and pistachios.
