Popular Dish in Malaysia

Ingredients

  • 300g all-purpose flour⁣
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt⁣
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar⁣
  • 2 tablespoons [30g] melted vegan butter⁣
  • 175ml [3/4 cup] water⁣
  • oil for cooking and brushing⁣

Preparation

  1. Mix all dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl until well combined, then rub it with melted butter until you get a coarse sandy mixture. ⁣

  2. Add in the water and knead into a unified mass, then transfer onto a cleaned surface and continue to knead into a smooth dough, about 10-15 mins Note: The dough will be sticky at first. ⁣

  3. Divide dough into 5 portions and grease a pan. Rub each dough with oil and place them on the pan. Cover and let it rest for an hour. ⁣

  4. Set up your work area and generously brush the surface with oil. Take a dough and roll it into a thin layer, then lift one side of the dough and fan-fold until you reach the end. Swirl it into a coil. ⁣

  5. Pre-heat a non-stick pan with oil. Take a dough and flatten it with palm, then place the roti on the pan and fry it until golden brown of both sides.⁣

  6. Remove and clap roti with your palms and serve warm with curry.⁣
