Steamed German Dumplings with Jam and Sauce
Ingredients
Dough
- 2 cups (250g) all purpose flour
- 2 tsp instant yeast
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 3 tbsp melted vegan butter (or coconut oil)
- 1/2 cup (125ml) lukewarm plant milk
Filling
- 1 tbsp jam for each bun
Steaming mixture
- 1/3 cup (80ml) water
- 2 tbsp vegan butter
- a pinch of salt
Vanilla sauce
- 1/2 cup (125ml) plant milk
- 1 tsp instant vanilla pudding
- 1 tbsp sugar
Preparation
Knead the dough.
Rest for 1 hour.
Shape into 5 buns.
Rest for 10 minutes.
Fill with jam.
Rest for another 10 minutes.
Steam in the water-butter-salt mixture for 20 minutes.
Heat up all ingredients for the sauce until thickened.
Notes
Dampfnudeln are typically filled with plum jam and topped with vanilla sauce.
This vegan version uses sugar-free jam options.
