Vegan Seitan Bbq Ribs

Ingredients

  • 1 cup vital wheat gluten
  • 1/4 cup nutritional yeast
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3/4 cup vegetable broth
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce

Preparation

  1. Mix all dry ingredients in a large bowl.

  2. In a separate bowl, combine vegetable broth, soy sauce, tomato paste, maple syrup, and minced garlic.

  3. Add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients and stir to form a dough.

  4. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until elastic and smooth.

  5. Shape the dough into rib-like pieces.

  6. Steam the seitan for 45 minutes or bake at 350°F for 45 minutes until firm and cooked through.

  7. Brush the seitan ribs with barbecue sauce and grill or bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until caramelized and heated.
