Homemade Vegan Flat Bread

Ingredients

  • 3 1/3 cups bread flour (plus 1/4 cup more if needed)
  • 1-1/2 cups + 2 tablespoons warm unsweetened almond milk
  • 2 tablespoons sugar (cane sugar or coconut sugar)
  • 1 package active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons melted vegan butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Avocado oil or olive oil

Preparation

  1. Heat almond milk in the microwave for 45 seconds or until warm. In a bowl, combine it with sugar, mix well, sprinkle yeast on top, and let it sit for 5 minutes.

  2. Add melted vegan butter and salt to the mixture. Gradually add flour up to 3-1/3 cups, mixing until well combined. Knead the dough by hand for 4-5 minutes, adding up to 1/4 cup more flour if too sticky.

  3. Transfer the dough to a bowl coated with cooking spray or olive oil, cover with a dish cloth, and let it rise for about an hour or until doubled in size. Divide into 8 equal pieces and roll each into a circle using a rolling pin.

  4. Heat a pan over medium heat. Brush one side of each dough circle with a small amount of avocado oil or olive oil and cook oil-side down until browned. Flip and cook the other side until golden. Remove from heat, brush with more oil, sprinkle with salt, and serve.

Serving suggestions

  1. Enjoy with hummus, as a wrap, or however you wish.
