Homemade Vegan Flat Bread
Ingredients
- 3 1/3 cups bread flour (plus 1/4 cup more if needed)
- 1-1/2 cups + 2 tablespoons warm unsweetened almond milk
- 2 tablespoons sugar (cane sugar or coconut sugar)
- 1 package active dry yeast
- 2 tablespoons melted vegan butter
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Avocado oil or olive oil
Preparation
Heat almond milk in the microwave for 45 seconds or until warm. In a bowl, combine it with sugar, mix well, sprinkle yeast on top, and let it sit for 5 minutes.
Add melted vegan butter and salt to the mixture. Gradually add flour up to 3-1/3 cups, mixing until well combined. Knead the dough by hand for 4-5 minutes, adding up to 1/4 cup more flour if too sticky.
Transfer the dough to a bowl coated with cooking spray or olive oil, cover with a dish cloth, and let it rise for about an hour or until doubled in size. Divide into 8 equal pieces and roll each into a circle using a rolling pin.
Heat a pan over medium heat. Brush one side of each dough circle with a small amount of avocado oil or olive oil and cook oil-side down until browned. Flip and cook the other side until golden. Remove from heat, brush with more oil, sprinkle with salt, and serve.
