Delicious Homemade Nutella

Ingredients

  • 1 c raw or roasted unsalted hazelnuts
  • 1/3 c date syrup
  • 1/3 c pure cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • pinch of sea salt
  • 1/4 c water (or almond milk)

Preparation

  1. Preheat oven to 170°C and spread hazelnuts in a single layer on a baking sheet. If raw, roast for a total of 12-15 mins – (If already roasted, roast for 8 mins just to warm the natural oils and loosen the skins). This will make it easier to blend into butter

  2. Remove from the oven and transfer onto a clean kitchen towel. Let cool until safe to touch

  3. When cooled, gently rub the nuts with the towel until the skin comes off. You want to get off as much as possible off because it yields a creamier Nutella

  4. Place nuts in food processor and process until finely ground. Scrape the sides of the food processor bowl as needed

  5. Continue to process nuts until a creamy nut butter is formed

  6. Once you’ve got a smooth hazelnut butter, add the date syrup, cocoa powder, vanilla extract, salt and water and process again until well combined

  7. Store the finished spread in a sealed container in the fridge for up to two weeks. Enjoy
