Meat Patties with Chestnuts

Ingredients

Meat mixture

  • 500 grams ground meat
  • 2 tablespoons breadcrumbs
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon baharat
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Filling

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 cup mushrooms, chopped
  • 1 cup roasted chestnuts, chopped
  • 1 stalk celery, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Tomato sauce

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 large tomatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup broth or water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Preparation

  1. In a deep bowl, place the meat, breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, baharat and cinnamon and mix with fingertips until well combined and cohesive

  2. For the filling, in a medium pot, heat olive oil over medium heat, add onion and cook until wilted, then add mushrooms, chestnuts, celery, salt and pepper and stir for 3 minutes, place filling in a dish and let cool completely

  3. For the tomato sauce, in the same pan, heat olive oil, add onion and cook until wilted, add garlic and cook for 1 minute until light golden, then add tomatoes, tomato paste, broth, salt and pepper and cook on high heat for 5 minutes

  4. Preheat oven to 180°C and prepare a suitable baking dish

  5. Take a piece of dough the size of a small egg, make a small cavity, add 1 tablespoon of filling, close and shape into a round or oval patty, repeat with remaining dough, place patties in the baking dish and bake for 15 minutes until cooked

  6. Remove from oven, spread sauce over, return to oven and bake for another 15 minutes or until golden and sauce thickens, then serve hot
