Beetroot Masala Toast with Spices

Ingredients

  • 1 medium beetroot
  • Oil, as needed
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • Pinch of asafoetida
  • Fresh garlic, to taste
  • Fresh ginger, to taste
  • Green chili, to taste
  • Chopped capsicum (optional)
  • Salt, to taste
  • 2-3 medium boiled potatoes
  • Fresh coriander
  • Bread slices
  • Green chutney
  • Raw onion rings (optional)
  • Oil or butter for cooking
  • Sev for garnish
  • Coriander for garnish

Preparation

  1. Grate one medium beetroot.

  2. Heat oil in a pan, add 1 teaspoon cumin seeds, 1 teaspoon mustard seeds, and a pinch of asafoetida.

  3. When mustard seeds crackle, add fresh garlic, ginger, and green chili.

  4. Add the grated beetroot and optional chopped capsicum.

  5. Add salt and mix well.

  6. Cook for 5 minutes to evaporate moisture.

  7. Add 2-3 boiled potatoes and fresh coriander, mix, and let cool to room temperature.

  8. Spread green chutney on a bread slice and top with the beetroot mixture.

  9. Optionally, add a raw onion ring on top.

  10. Cook on a hot tawa with oil or butter.

  11. Garnish with sev and coriander.

Notes
