Classic American Cinnamon Sugar Snickerdoodle Cookies

Ingredients

Dough

  • 380 g all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • a pinch of salt
  • 225 g softened butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 180 g granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs

Topping

  • 70 g granulated sugar
  • 3 tsp ground cinnamon

Preparation

  1. Whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt

  2. Beat softened butter, vanilla extract, and sugar until creamy

  3. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well

  4. Add butter mixture to flour mixture and mix until combined

  5. In a small bowl, mix sugar and cinnamon for the topping

  6. With a teaspoon, take small portions of dough and roll into balls

  7. Roll balls in cinnamon-sugar mixture

  8. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet and flatten slightly

  9. Leave space between cookies as they spread during baking

  10. Preheat oven to 190°C (conventional) or 170°C (convection)

  11. Sprinkle the remaining cinnamon-sugar mixture over the cookies

  12. Bake for about 10 minutes

  13. Flatten slightly with a spatula

  14. Let cool

Tips

  1. Chill the cookies before serving for best results; they taste especially delicious cold from the refrigerator
