Easy Fluffy Vegan Flat Bread

Ingredients

  • 3 1/3 cups bread flour (plus up to 1/4 cup more if needed)
  • 1 1/2 cups plus 2 tablespoons warm unsweetened almond milk
  • 2 tablespoons sugar (cane or coconut sugar)
  • 1 package active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons vegan butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Avocado oil or olive oil (for brushing)

Preparation

  1. Heat the almond milk in the microwave for 45 seconds or until warm

  2. In a bowl, combine the warm almond milk and sugar and mix to combine, then sprinkle the yeast over the top

  3. Let the mixture sit for about 5 minutes

  4. Add the melted vegan butter and salt to the yeast mixture

  5. Add the flour one cup at a time until 3 1/3 cups are added, mixing until well combined

  6. Knead the dough with your hands for 4 to 5 minutes, adding up to 1/4 cup more flour if too sticky

  7. Transfer the dough to a bowl coated with cooking spray or olive oil

  8. Cover the bowl with a dish cloth and let it rise at room temperature for 1 hour or until doubled in size

  9. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces

  10. Roll each piece into a circle using a rolling pin

  11. Heat a pan over medium heat

  12. Brush the top of each dough circle with avocado oil or olive oil

  13. Place each dough circle oil-side down in the hot pan

  14. Cook until the bottom is browned, then flip and cook the other side until golden

  15. Remove from the pan, brush with a little more oil, and sprinkle with salt

Serving

  1. Serve with hummus, as a wrap, or as desired
