Easy Fluffy Vegan Flat Bread
Ingredients
- 3 1/3 cups bread flour (plus up to 1/4 cup more if needed)
- 1 1/2 cups plus 2 tablespoons warm unsweetened almond milk
- 2 tablespoons sugar (cane or coconut sugar)
- 1 package active dry yeast
- 2 tablespoons vegan butter, melted
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Avocado oil or olive oil (for brushing)
Preparation
Heat the almond milk in the microwave for 45 seconds or until warm
In a bowl, combine the warm almond milk and sugar and mix to combine, then sprinkle the yeast over the top
Let the mixture sit for about 5 minutes
Add the melted vegan butter and salt to the yeast mixture
Add the flour one cup at a time until 3 1/3 cups are added, mixing until well combined
Knead the dough with your hands for 4 to 5 minutes, adding up to 1/4 cup more flour if too sticky
Transfer the dough to a bowl coated with cooking spray or olive oil
Cover the bowl with a dish cloth and let it rise at room temperature for 1 hour or until doubled in size
Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces
Roll each piece into a circle using a rolling pin
Heat a pan over medium heat
Brush the top of each dough circle with avocado oil or olive oil
Place each dough circle oil-side down in the hot pan
Cook until the bottom is browned, then flip and cook the other side until golden
Remove from the pan, brush with a little more oil, and sprinkle with salt
Serving
Serve with hummus, as a wrap, or as desired
