Fluffy Homemade Vegan Flat Bread

Ingredients

  • 3 1/3 cups bread flour (add 1/4 cup more if needed)
  • 1-1/2 cups plus 2 tablespoons warm unsweetened almond milk
  • 2 tablespoons sugar (cane or coconut)
  • 1 package active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons melted vegan butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Avocado oil or olive oil

Preparation

  1. Heat the almond milk in the microwave for 45 seconds or until warm. Combine it with sugar in a bowl, mix, and sprinkle yeast on top. Let it sit for about 5 minutes.

  2. Add melted vegan butter and salt to the mixture. Gradually add flour, one cup at a time, up to 3-1/3 cups, and mix well. The dough will be sticky; continue kneading by hand. If it's too sticky, add up to 1/4 cup more flour and knead for 4-5 minutes.

  3. Transfer the dough to an oiled bowl, cover with a dish cloth, and let it rise for about an hour or until doubled in size. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and roll each into circles using a rolling pin.

  4. Heat a pan over medium heat. Brush one side of each dough circle with avocado oil or olive oil and place it oil-side down on the pan. Cook until the bottom is browned, then flip and cook the other side until golden. Remove from heat, brush with more oil, and sprinkle with salt.
