Homemade Garlic Naan Bread
Ingredients
- 300 g all purpose flour
- 100 g unsweetened vegan yogurt
- 100 g warm water
- 6 g salt
- 1 tsp active dry yeast
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 2 tbsp oil
Garlic butter
- 2 garlic cloves
- 60 g vegan butter
- cilantro or parsley
- pinch of salt
Preparation
Mix all ingredients for the dough and knead for a couple of minutes until smooth. Add more flour or water if needed.
Rub with oil, cover and let it rest in a warm spot for 1.5-2 hours until doubled in size.
Divide the dough into 6 pieces, shape into balls, cover with cling foil and set aside to relax for 15 minutes.
Roll out into a flat oval disc, spritz with water and place in a hot pan wet side down. Cook for 1-2 minutes until it releases and is slightly browned or charred, then flip and cook until desired color.
Place the naan in a damp kitchen towel to keep it soft.
Garlic butter
Finely chop the garlic and cilantro and add it to the butter. If you don’t like the strong taste of raw garlic, heat it with the butter in a pan, but be careful not to burn the garlic.
Spread the butter on your naan and enjoy with your favorite curry or stew.
