Basbousa with Date Syrup
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup date syrup
- 2 tablespoons rose water
- 3 cups medium semolina
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup yogurt
- 1/2 cup hot water
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- A pinch of salt
- 1 teaspoon orange juice
- 2 tablespoons ghee
- Almonds, as needed
For serving

Preparation
Preheat the oven to 180°C.
Get a medium-sized baking dish.
In a cup, mix the date syrup and rose water.
Using a brush, brush the bottom and sides of the baking dish with the syrup mixture and set aside.
In a bowl, combine the semolina, sugar, yogurt, hot water, baking soda, baking powder, salt, orange juice, and ghee until smooth and well mixed.
Pour the mixture into the baking dish and level the surface.
Using a brush, brush the remaining syrup mixture over the surface of the basbousa.
Cut the basbousa into rectangles as desired.
Place two almonds on top of each rectangle.
Bake in the oven until golden brown.
Pour the syrup over, re-cut, and let it cool.
