Luqaimat Arabic Fried Dough Balls

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon instant yeast
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons starch
  • 1 teaspoon rose water

For frying

  • corn oil

For serving

  • syrup or attar

Preparation

  1. Dissolve sugar and yeast in warm water and let it sit until frothy

  2. Add flour, baking powder, salt, oil, starch, and rose water to the yeast mixture and mix to form a dough

  3. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size

  4. Heat corn oil in a deep pot or fryer

  5. Drop small balls of dough into the hot oil and fry until golden brown

  6. Remove the fried balls and drain on paper towels

  7. Serve warm with syrup or attar
