Fried Dough Balls with Custard

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 tablespoons dried milk
  • 2 tablespoons custard powder
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • a pinch of salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1/4 teaspoon saffron
  • 1/2 cup yogurt
  • 1 cup warm water

Syrup

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon saffron
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice

Preparation

  1. In a mixer bowl, place the flour, dried milk, custard, sugar, yeast, salt, cardamom, saffron and mix to combine, then add the warm water and knead for 3-4 minutes.

  2. Let the dough rise for 30 minutes.

  3. Shape the dough into balls.

  4. Fry the balls in hot oil.

  5. Remove from oil, place in the syrup, stir, and then drain.

  6. For the syrup: In a pot, combine sugar, water, saffron, and lemon juice, and let it boil gently for 10 minutes.
