Basbousa Cake with Malteasers
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons tahini
- 1/4 cup fine semolina
- 1/2 cup powdered milk
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup yogurt
- 1/2 cup corn oil
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3-4 packets of Malteasers chocolate
- 2 cups syrup
Preparation
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius.
Grease a 9-inch baking dish with tahini.
In a bowl, combine semolina, powdered milk, baking powder, salt, and sugar; mix well with a hand whisk.
In another bowl, combine yogurt, corn oil, eggs, and vanilla extract; whisk well until blended.
Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until well combined; the mixture should be somewhat soft and light-colored.
Pour the basbousa batter into the prepared dish.
Arrange Malteasers on top, pressing them slightly into the surface so they are partially embedded.
Bake for about 25 minutes or until golden brown.
Immediately after removing from the oven, pour the syrup over the basbousa, allow it to cool completely, and then serve.
