Japanese Grilled Rice Balls

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sushi rice
  • 2 1/4 cups water
  • 1/4 cup rice vinegar
  • Salt water
  • Nori seaweed
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce and 2 teaspoons maple syrup

Preparation

  1. Rinse the rice with cold water until the water runs clear. Add the rice and water to a pot and cook for about 15 minutes or until the rice is cooked.

  2. Transfer the cooked rice immediately to a large bowl, add the rice vinegar, fold with a spoon, and let it cool.

  3. Dip your hands in water, sprinkle with salt, add 1/3 cup of cooked rice to your hand, press into a triangle shape, and repeat until no rice is left.

  4. Fry the rice balls on one side until golden, flip, cover with the mixture of soy sauce and maple syrup, and keep frying until golden and crispy.

  5. Wrap each rice ball with a small piece of nori seaweed and enjoy.
