Popcorn Chick’n Can Be Made Vegan

Ingredients

  • 1 box
  • buttermilk mixture
  • 2 tbsp egg replacer or flax egg
  • 2 cups unsweetened almond or non-dairy milk
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • breading mixture
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 4 tbsp nutritional yeast
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1/2 cup avocado oil (enough for deep fry)

Preparation

  1. Dice the tofu to about 1 inch size cubes

  2. Add all buttermilk ingredients to a bowl, mix, and let sit

  3. Gather up all of your breading mixture ingredients and whisk together

  4. Turn pan on to medium heat and fill with enough oil to cover most of the tofu. Once the oil is hot begin frying the tofu by dipping each piece of tofu in the buttermilk mixture, then in the breading, then back in the buttermilk and again in the breading.

  5. Cook until golden brown color and edges are seem crispy. Change oil as needed

  6. Once finished cooking, remove them from the oil and transfer to a plate covered with paper towels to let absorb some of the oil

  7. Add to your favorite rice or ramen bowl! You can also just dip them in bbq sauce and eat as a snack
