Vegan Pear Galette: Flawless Fall Dessert
Ingredients
Dough
- 1 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp sugar
- Pinch of salt
- 1 1/4 sticks (10 tbsp) unsalted vegan butter (e.g., Miyoko's Creamery)
- 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
- 1/8 cup ice-cold water
Filling
- 4 firm Anjou pears (slightly ripe)
- Spice mix: 1/4 cup white sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon, 1/8 tsp ground cardamom, 1/4 tsp ground ginger, 1/2 tsp nutmeg
Preparation
Cube the vegan butter and chill it.
Whisk together all the dry ingredients for the dough.
Incorporate the cold butter into the dry mix using your hands, pinching the butter and flour together until it resembles sandy texture.
Pour the butter-flour mix onto a floured surface, slowly add the apple cider vinegar and ice water, kneading gently until a uniform dough forms.
Cover the dough and refrigerate for 2 hours.
In a separate bowl, combine the sugar and spice mix. Thinly slice the pears.
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). After the dough has chilled, roll it out on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness, forming a circle.
Arrange the pear slices on the dough in a spiral shape, leaving a 1-inch border along the edges.
Sprinkle the spice mix over the pears. Fold the edges of the dough over the pears to create a crust. Optionally, brush the edges with melted butter and sprinkle with extra sugar.
Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 50-60 minutes.
Slice and serve the galette warm for an incredible dessert experience.
