Vegan Orange Chicken with Tofu
Ingredients
Tofu
- 1/2 cup neutral oil (canola recommended)
- 1 package tofu (16 oz / 454 g)
- 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup cornstarch
- 1/4-1/3 cup water
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Sauce
- 1 cup orange juice
- 1/3-1/2 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons tamari or soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon Sriracha (optional)
- 2 teaspoons ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon orange zest
Preparation
Press the tofu to remove excess water and cut it into cubes
In a bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, and salt, then add water to form a batter
Coat the tofu cubes in the batter
Heat oil in a pan and fry the tofu until golden and crispy
In a separate pan, combine orange juice, sugar, tamari or soy sauce, rice vinegar, Sriracha if using, ground ginger, minced garlic, red pepper flakes, cornstarch, and orange zest
Cook the sauce over medium heat, stirring until it thickens
Add the fried tofu to the sauce and stir to coat evenly
Serve immediately
