Sweet and Sour Crispy Orange Tofu

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1 block tofu (around 10oz), cubed
  • Oil for frying
  • Juice of 1 orange (around 1/3 cup)
  • 2 tbsp tamari
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp hot sauce (optional)
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tsp arrowroot (or more cornstarch)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Preparation

  1. Add the cornstarch to a ziplock bag, followed by the tofu. Shake in order to coat the cubes evenly.

  2. Heat the oil in a non-stick frying pan, then add the tofu cubes and cook for around 5-7 minutes, flipping often, until crispy and golden brown on all sides. Remove and set aside.

  3. Meanwhile, stir together the orange juice, tamari, rice vinegar, hot sauce, water and arrowroot or cornstarch.

  4. Add the garlic to the frying pan and sauté for 2 minutes, until fragrant.

  5. Add the sauce to the frying pan together with the tofu. Stir for a couple of minutes to coat the tofu and allow the sauce to thicken.

  6. Serve with rice or noodles of your choice.
