Tofu Balls with Sweet and Spicy Sauce
Ingredients
- water:1/2c + 1t
- Tofu: 1 packet firm tofu pressed and mashed
- spring onions: 3 finely chopped
- Capsicum 1: finely chopped
- Fresh basil: 1/2 C
- Red chilli: 1 minced
- Soya sauce/tamari: 1 T
- Sesame oil: 1/2T
- Cornflour: 1 T
- Sesame oil for frying
- For sweet and spicy sauce
- Chilly sauce: 6t
- Soya sauce: 2t
- Maple syrup or xylitol: 6t
- Tomato ketchup: 5T
- White vinegar: 2 T
- Other ingredients
- Water:1/2C + 1T
- Cornflour: 1/2 T
- Sesame oil: 1 T
- Ginger: 1 T grated
- Red chilly: 1 minced
- Spring onions: 3 chopped
- Carrots: 1 chopped
- Capsicum: 1 chopped
- Basil leaves: 1/2 C
Preparation
Heat 1/2 t sesame oil in a pan and add spring onions, capsicum, red chilli and soya sauce
Once cooked transfer into a bowl and let the mixture coll
Add mashed tofu and cornflour
Shape into balls, roll in cornflour and refrigerate for 1 hr
Fry in sesame oil till crispy, alternately you can brown the outsides in oil then bake in oven at 180c for 25 minutes
For sauce:
Mix all the listed ingredients together
Heat sesame oil in a wok and add ginger, red chilly and spring onions
Add carrots and capsicum and stir fry to cook
Add the sauce and 1/2 c water
Mix cornflour with 1t water and add to the wok
Let the mixture come to a simmer and thicken then add the cooked balls and basil leaves
