Tofu Balls with Sweet and Spicy Sauce

Ingredients

  • water:1/2c + 1t
  • Tofu: 1 packet firm tofu pressed and mashed
  • spring onions: 3 finely chopped
  • Capsicum 1: finely chopped
  • Fresh basil: 1/2 C
  • Red chilli: 1 minced
  • Soya sauce/tamari: 1 T
  • Sesame oil: 1/2T
  • Cornflour: 1 T
  • Sesame oil for frying
  • For sweet and spicy sauce
  • Chilly sauce: 6t
  • Soya sauce: 2t
  • Maple syrup or xylitol: 6t
  • Tomato ketchup: 5T
  • White vinegar: 2 T
  • Other ingredients
  • Water:1/2C + 1T
  • Cornflour: 1/2 T
  • Sesame oil: 1 T
  • Ginger: 1 T grated
  • Red chilly: 1 minced
  • Spring onions: 3 chopped
  • Carrots: 1 chopped
  • Capsicum: 1 chopped
  • Basil leaves: 1/2 C

Preparation

  1. Heat 1/2 t sesame oil in a pan and add spring onions, capsicum, red chilli and soya sauce

  2. Once cooked transfer into a bowl and let the mixture coll

  3. Add mashed tofu and cornflour

  4. Shape into balls, roll in cornflour and refrigerate for 1 hr

  5. Fry in sesame oil till crispy, alternately you can brown the outsides in oil then bake in oven at 180c for 25 minutes

  6. For sauce:

  7. Mix all the listed ingredients together

  8. Heat sesame oil in a wok and add ginger, red chilly and spring onions

  9. Add carrots and capsicum and stir fry to cook

  10. Add the sauce and 1/2 c water

  11. Mix cornflour with 1t water and add to the wok

  12. Let the mixture come to a simmer and thicken then add the cooked balls and basil leaves
