Healthy Vegan Apple Cinnamon Rolls

Ingredients

Dough

  • 300g spelt flour (or wheat)
  • sweetener of choice (e.g., vanilla flavor drops or 50-100g sugar/xylitol etc.)
  • pinch of salt
  • 40g vegan butter
  • 30g apple sauce
  • 100ml warm plant milk
  • 1/2 cube fresh yeast

Filling

  • 20g crushed hazelnuts
  • 1 apple
  • 2 tbsp cinnamon
  • 50g xylitol/coconut sugar or other
  • 1 tbsp rapeseed oil
  • 50g apple sauce

Preparation

  1. Dissolve yeast in milk

  2. Mix flour and salt

  3. Add flavor drops to yeast mixture or add sugar to flour

  4. Pour yeast-milk, apple sauce, and vegan butter to dry ingredients

  5. Knead until dough forms; add more flour if needed

  6. Let rest for 30 minutes in a warm place

  7. Cut apple into small pieces and mix with crushed hazelnuts, cinnamon, sweetener, oil, and apple sauce for filling

  8. Knead the dough again

  9. Roll out to a square

  10. Spread the filling

  11. Roll up

  12. Cut into slices

  13. Place rolls on a baking sheet or in a round baking form

  14. Bake at 180°C (350°F) for about 30 minutes; reduce time if not in a baking form
