Delicious Homemade Vegan Pizza

Ingredients

Dough

  • 3 cups flour (360g)
  • 1 packet of yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Vegan cheese

  • 1/2 cauliflower (375g)
  • 3.5 tablespoons tapioca flour
  • 1 tablespoon nutritional yeast
  • 1-2 teaspoons salt (add to taste)
  • 1/2-1 cup non-dairy milk, unsweetened and unflavored (start with less, add as needed)

Pizza sauce

  • 3/4 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon parsley
  • 1/4 teaspoon oregano
  • a pinch red pepper flakes

Preparation

  1. Warm the water to 110-115F (43-46C), such as by microwaving for about 30 seconds, and check with a thermometer or finger test.

  2. Add sugar and yeast to the warm water and set aside for 10 minutes until foamy and aromatic.

  3. Sift half the flour and salt into a large bowl.

  4. Add olive oil and the activated yeast mixture, then mix gently while incorporating the remaining flour until the dough is sticky.

  5. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about one minute, adjusting with extra flour or water if too sticky or dry, until smooth and soft.

  6. Shape the dough into a ball, place it in an oiled bowl, cover with a dish towel, and let it rise for at least 30 minutes or until doubled in size.

  7. While the dough is rising, cut the cauliflower into small chunks and boil until fork-tender.

  8. Drain the cauliflower and blend it with tapioca flour, nutritional yeast, salt to taste, and non-dairy milk, starting with a small amount of milk and adding more as needed for consistency.

  9. Mix the pizza sauce ingredients together in a bowl.

  10. After the dough has risen, roll it out on a floured surface to the desired pizza shape and thickness.

  11. Spread the pizza sauce evenly over the dough.

  12. Sprinkle the vegan cheese over the sauce.

  13. Bake the pizza in a preheated oven at around 475F for 10-15 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
