Easy Homemade Vegan Pizza
Ingredients
Dough
- 3 cups flour (360g)
- 1 packet of yeast
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 1/2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 cup warm water
- 1/2 tsp salt
Vegan cheese
- 1/2 cauliflower (375g)
- 3.5 tbsp tapioca flour
- 1 tbsp nutritional yeast
- 1-2 tsp salt (add to taste)
- 1/2-1 cup non-dairy milk, unsweetened and no flavor (I used 3/4 cup)
Pizza sauce
- 3/4 cup tomato sauce
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp parsley
- 1/4 tsp oregano
- A pinch red pepper flakes
Preparation
Warm the water to 110-115°F by microwaving for about 30 seconds or testing with a finger for a very hot bath temperature.
Pour sugar and yeast into the warm water and set aside for 10 minutes until the mixture becomes foamy and starts to smell yeasty.
Sift half the flour and salt into a large bowl to avoid adding too much flour at once.
Add olive oil and the activated yeast mixture to the bowl and begin to gently mix.
Gradually add the remaining flour while mixing until the dough looks somewhat sticky.
Knead the dough on a clean, floured surface for about a minute until it is smooth and soft, adding extra flour if too sticky or water if too dry.
Form the dough into a ball and place it in an oiled bowl, then cover with a dish towel and set aside for at least 30 minutes or until it has doubled in size.
While the dough is rising, cut the cauliflower into small chunks and boil on the stove until it is fork tender.
Drain the cooked cauliflower and blend it with tapioca flour, nutritional yeast, salt, and non-dairy milk, starting with 1/2 cup of milk and adding more as needed until smooth, using less milk for better consistency.
Mix the pizza sauce ingredients together in a bowl to combine.
Preheat the oven to 425°F.
Roll out the risen dough on a floured surface to the desired thickness for the pizza base.
Spread the prepared pizza sauce evenly over the dough.
Sprinkle or spread the vegan cheese over the sauce.
Bake in the preheated oven for 10-15 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.
Tips
Adjust the amount of flour or water in the dough based on consistency, as some days may require more or less.
Add salt to the vegan cheese according to personal taste preferences.
Use a thermometer to check water temperature for yeast activation if available.
