Easy Vegan Pizza with Homemade Dough
Ingredients
Pizza dough
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 packet fast-acting yeast
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons olive oil (+ more for seasoning crust)
- 2 tablespoons sugar , divided
- 1 teaspoon salt (+ more for crust)
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Toppings
- 1/2 cup marinara sauce (more if preferred)
- homemade vegan mozzarella cheese , sliced (or store-bought cheese)
- 1/2 cup fresh basil , chopped
- 1 1/2 teaspoons Italian seasoning (*optional)
Preparation
Preheat oven to 500 degrees F.
Stir yeast and 1/2 tablespoon sugar into warm water until dissolved and let sit for 7-10 minutes until foamy.
In a large bowl, combine flour, garlic powder, salt, and remaining sugar.
Add activated yeast and olive oil, mix until well combined and form a dough. If dough is too sticky, add a couple tablespoons of flour.
Form dough into a ball and place in a lightly floured bowl, then cover completely with a damp napkin or hand towel for 30 minutes or until dough doubles in size.
Place a large piece of parchment paper over your work area and dust with flour.
Cut the dough in half using a wet knife, as this recipe makes two 10-inch pizzas.
Spread one half of the dough into a round pizza shape on the parchment paper, making edges slightly thicker.
Lightly brush the crust with olive oil and sprinkle with salt and Italian herbs.
Spread marinara sauce over the dough.
Add sliced vegan mozzarella cheese and chopped fresh basil.
If using, sprinkle with Italian seasoning.
Bake in the preheated oven for 10-15 minutes or until crust is golden and cheese is melted.
Repeat the process with the second dough half.
Tips
The pizza will be cooked on parchment paper only and transferred using a pizza pan or large cutting board.
Prepare one pizza at a time while the other is cooking.
