Garlic and Lemon Oven-Baked Fish
Ingredients
- 6-8 pieces of white fish (ideally cod or haddock)
- 60g butter
- 6-8 garlic cloves, finely sliced
- 3 tbsp plain flour
- 1/2 litre milk
- water as needed
- 1 tsp English mustard
- 3/4 tsp salt
- handful of fresh chopped parsley
- juice of one lemon
Preparation
Melt butter in a pan and add the sliced garlic on low heat to infuse the flavor without cooking it. Add plain flour to create a roux.
Add milk gradually to the roux, ensuring it is absorbed before adding more. If the sauce is too thick, add water to thin it out. Add salt, mustard, lemon juice, and chopped parsley. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
Place the pieces of white fish in a baking dish or cast iron skillet and pour over the sauce, making sure the fish is coated. Cook at 200°C for 15-20 minutes until the fish is cooked through.
Serve with your favorite sides and enjoy.
Tips
This dish pairs well with cheesy mash or spiced roast potatoes.
