Easy Sprout Pakora with Chickpea Flour Batter

Ingredients

  • 200g sprouts
  • 200g gram flour (chickpea flour)
  • 200-250ml water
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 500ml oil for deep frying
  • Chat masala (optional)

Preparation

  1. Wash and slice the sprouts into 0.5cm slices approximately

  2. Add all ingredients except the water into a bowl and pour on half the water

  3. Mix really well

  4. Add the rest of the water slowly, about 10ml at a time, until you have a thick batter coating the sprouts

  5. Adjust the water as needed; if sprouts are wet, you may not need all of it

  6. If batter is too loose and not holding together, add 1-2 tablespoons of gram flour

  7. Heat the oil on medium heat

  8. Drop heaped tablespoon-sized pakoras into the hot oil and deep fry for a few minutes until they just start to turn golden brown

  9. Remove and drain on kitchen paper, then serve hot

  10. Alternatively, spray pakora with a little oil and use an air fryer

  11. Sprinkle with a little chat masala if available and serve alone or with chutney
