Best Vegan Cinnamon Rolls with Cream Cheese Icing
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp maple syrup
- 1/4 cup melted vegan butter
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup almond milk
- 1/2 packet active dry yeast
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 1/3 cup softened vegan butter
- 1/2-2/3 cup sugar
- 2 tbsp cinnamon
Icing components
- 1 8 ounce package of vegan cream cheese
- 3 cups confectioners sugar
- 1/2 cup softened vegan butter
Preparation
Mix maple syrup, melted vegan butter, salt, and almond milk. Sprinkle yeast on top and let it sit for 1 minute, then mix in flour until combined. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and set aside for 1 hour to rise.
Roll dough onto a floured surface into a 1/2 inch thick rectangle. Spread softened vegan butter, then sugar, then cinnamon. Roll dough into a log and slice into 6 pinwheels.
Place pinwheels in a baking dish such as a round pie dish or casserole dish, ensuring they touch each other but have room to grow. Cover with plastic wrap and let sit for 30 to 60 minutes.
Remove plastic wrap and bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes.
For the icing, mix vegan cream cheese, confectioners sugar, and softened vegan butter with an electric hand mixer. Serve the rolls with this homemade vegan cream cheese icing.
