Homemade Vegan Flat Bread
Ingredients
- 3 1/3 cups bread flour (plus 1/4 cup more if needed)
- 1-1/2 cups plus 2 tablespoons warm unsweetened almond milk
- 2 tablespoons sugar (cane sugar or coconut sugar)
- 1 package active dry yeast
- 2 tablespoons vegan butter, melted
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Avocado oil or olive oil
Preparation
Heat almond milk in microwave for 45 seconds or until warm, then in a bowl combine it with sugar, mix to combine, sprinkle yeast over the top, and allow to sit for about 5 minutes.
Add melted vegan butter and salt, then add flour a cup at a time until 3-1/3 cups are incorporated and mix until well combined; the dough will be sticky, so continue mixing and kneading with your hands, adding up to 1/4 cup more flour if too sticky, and knead for 4-5 minutes.
Transfer the dough to a bowl coated with cooking spray or olive oil, cover with a dish cloth, and let it sit for about an hour or until doubled in size, then divide into 8 equal pieces and roll each into circles using a rolling pin.
Heat a pan to medium heat, brush the top of each dough circle with a small amount of avocado oil or olive oil, place oil-side down on the grill, cook until the bottom is browned, flip and cook the other side until golden, then remove from heat.
Tips
Brush with more oil and sprinkle with salt before serving, and enjoy with hummus, as a wrap, or as desired.
