Easy Homemade Vegan Flat Bread
Ingredients
- 3 1/3 cups bread flour, plus up to 1/4 cup more if needed
- 1 1/2 cups plus 2 tablespoons warm unsweetened almond milk
- 2 tablespoons sugar (cane sugar or coconut sugar)
- 1 package active dry yeast
- 2 tablespoons vegan butter, melted
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Avocado oil or olive oil
Preparation
Heat almond milk in microwave for 45 seconds or until warm.
Combine warm almond milk and sugar in a bowl and mix to combine.
Sprinkle yeast over the top of the almond milk mixture.
Allow the mixture to sit for about 5 minutes.
Add melted vegan butter and salt to the yeast mixture.
Add flour one cup at a time until 3 1/3 cups have been added, mixing until well combined.
Continue mixing and kneading with your hands; the dough will be sticky.
If the dough is too sticky, add up to 1/4 cup more flour.
Knead the dough with your hands for about 4 to 5 minutes.
Transfer the dough to a bowl coated with cooking spray or olive oil.
Cover the bowl with a dish cloth.
Let the dough rise at room temperature for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces.
Roll each piece into a circle using a rolling pin.
Heat a pan over medium heat.
Brush the top of each dough circle with a small amount of avocado oil or olive oil.
Place each dough circle oil-side down onto the heated pan.
Cook until the bottom is browned, then flip and cook the other side until golden.
Remove the flatbread from the pan.
Brush the cooked flatbread with a little more oil and sprinkle with salt.
