Tempura Fried Oyster Mushrooms

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup brown rice flour
  • 1 cup sparkling water
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Cracked pepper
  • Approximately 8 oyster mushrooms
  • Oil for frying

Preparation

  1. Mix the brown rice flour, sparkling water, baking soda, garlic powder, salt, and cracked pepper to form a batter.

  2. Heat approximately 1 cup of oil in a small deep-sided pot over medium-high heat.

  3. Test the oil by dropping a teaspoon of batter into it; if it sizzles, the oil is ready and reduce heat slightly.

  4. Dredge the oyster mushrooms in the batter, shake off any excess, and fry them until golden brown on all sides.

  5. Remove the fried mushrooms and place them on a cooking rack with a paper towel underneath to drain.

Tips

  1. Serve with tamari for dipping to enhance flavor.
