1 1/2 teaspoons culinary grade matcha powder (I use @matchaeologist)
1 1/2 block unsalted vegan butter, softened (still kind of cool in temperature)
4 cups organic powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Using an electric beater or headstand mixer, beat all ingredients until well combined and creates a cream cheese consistency. Chill until ready to use for your chocolate cake circles
This vegan cream cheese recipe is perfect for cinnamon rolls too! Just remove the matcha powder
VEGAN BAKING NOTES
Egg replacement (1 large egg) - 1 tablespoon ground flaxseeds or flax meal + 3 tablespoons water
Vegan Butter - Earth Balance Unsalted Block Butter (equivalent to 8 tablespoons or 1/2 cup)
Melted Butter replacement (if you don’t have butter on hand)- refined coconut oil or neutral flavored oil such as vegetable or canola
Buttermilk replacement - Soy milk + 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar (or lemon juice)
Sugar - Not all sugar is vegan due to how it is filtered. If this is a problem for you, swap to the organic version
Flour - ALWAYS use quality unbleached flour. All purpose flour for cakes and pastries work best
