Indian Bottle Gourd Bharta Dish
Ingredients
- 1 Bottle Gourd
- 1 tablespoon Oil
- 1 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
- Pinch of Asafoetida Powder
- 1 teaspoon Ginger-Garlic paste
- Finely chopped Green Chillies (as per taste)
- 1 finely chopped Onion
- Salt as per taste
- 1 finely chopped Tomato
- 1 teaspoon Coriander Powder
- Red Chilli Powder (as per taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
- Kasuri Methi
- Chopped Coriander
Preparation
Take one bottle gourd and roast it over direct gas heat until it is completely dark and the skin starts to release
Peel the skin and chop the bottle gourd well with a knife
Heat one tablespoon of oil in a pan
Add one teaspoon of cumin seeds
Add a pinch of asafoetida powder
Add one teaspoon of ginger-garlic paste
Add finely chopped green chillies as per taste
Add one finely chopped onion
Add salt as per taste
Add one finely chopped tomato and cook until it is soft
Add one teaspoon of coriander powder
Add red chilli powder as per taste
Add half a teaspoon of turmeric powder
Optionally add garam masala
Roast the mixture well and then add the charred bottle gourd
Mix everything well, cover with a lid, and cook for 10 to 15 minutes on medium heat
Add kasuri methi and chopped coriander at the end
