Crispy Tofu Bites with Dipping Sauce
Ingredients
Tofu
- 3 blocks extra firm tofu
- Neutral oil for frying
Batter
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp corn starch
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 3/4 cup room temperature water
Breading
- 2 cups Japanese breadcrumbs or panko breadcrumbs
Dipping Sauce (Makes roughly 1 cup)
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 3 1/2 tbsp warm water
- 2 1/2 tbsp coconut sugar or other sugar of choice (adjust sweetness)
Preparation
Drain water from the tofu by wrapping them in paper towels and placing a heavy flat surface on top of each block. Leave for 15 minutes until water is absorbed.
Prepare the batter by mixing the flour, corn starch, baking powder, salt, and water in a bowl until smooth.
Place the breadcrumbs in another bowl or plate.
Dip each tofu block into the batter, then coat it in the breadcrumb mixture. Press down the breadcrumbs onto the tofu to coat well.
Heat a pan with oil and fry the coated tofu until golden brown, turning every 2 minutes. Once golden brown, place on paper towels to cool.
