Homemade Vegan American Cheese

Ingredients

  • 2 cups full fat coconut milk
  • 1.5 Tablespoons agar agar (I use @livingjin.official)
  • 3 Tablespoons nutritional yeast
  • 3/4 teaspoon pink salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Small amount of coconut oil for greasing

Preparation

  1. Add all ingredients into a small saucepan and whisk until combined.

  2. Bring mixture to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes, stirring frequently.

  3. Pour cheese liquid into a mold that has been greased with a small amount of coconut oil.

  4. Refrigerate until set, which takes about 2-3 hours.

  5. Once set, flip over the cheese and cut into desired shapes, such as squares or slices.

Tips

  1. This cheese does not melt but works well in cold sandwiches or wraps.

  2. Use a rectangular steel tupperware container for the mold if available.
