Oil Free Baked Falafels

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups chickpeas
  • 1 onion
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tsp chilli powder
  • pinch of cayenne
  • juice of half lemon
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 cup chickpea flour
  • 1/4 cup chopped parsley
  • salt and pepper to taste

Preparation

  1. In a pan, cook chopped onion and minced garlic in a little water until the onions turn slightly golden.

  2. Add the cumin seeds, chilli powder, cayenne and cook further for a minute or so.

  3. In a food processor, pulse the chickpeas, drained and rinsed.

  4. Transfer the pulsed chickpeas into a large bowl, add the cooked onion mixture, juice of half a lemon, baking powder, chickpea flour, parsley and salt and pepper to taste.

  5. Mix everything well together and add 1/4 cup of water.

  6. Keep mixing until dough like consistency, adding a little more water if the dough feels too thick.

  7. Form into equal sized patties or balls and place on a baking sheet or tray.

  8. Bake at 200C for 25 minutes until slightly golden, flipping them half way through.

  9. Serve and enjoy as desired.
