Basbousa with Chocolate Maltesers
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons tahini
- 1/4 cup fine semolina
- 1/2 cup powdered milk
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup yogurt
- 1/2 cup corn oil
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon liquid vanilla
- 3-4 packets of Maltesers chocolate
- 2 cups sugar syrup
Preparation
Preheat the oven to 180°C.
Grease a 9-inch baking dish with tahini.
In a bowl, mix the semolina, powdered milk, baking powder, salt, and sugar well with a hand whisk.
In another bowl, whisk together the yogurt, corn oil, eggs, and vanilla until well combined.
Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined; the batter should be somewhat soft and light in color.
Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish.
Distribute the Maltesers over the surface, pressing them in slightly so they are partially embedded but still visible.
Bake for about 25 minutes or until golden brown.
Immediately after removing from the oven, pour the syrup over the basbousa.
Allow it to cool completely before serving and enjoying.
Syrup
Make the syrup by dissolving 2 cups of sugar in 2 cups of water, bring to a boil, and simmer until slightly thickened, then set aside to cool.
