Milk Pudding with Toast
Ingredients
- 6 slices of toast
- 3 cups milk
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons rose water
- 1/4 teaspoon ground mastic
- 1/4 cup sugar
For serving
- honey or syrup
For garnishing
- crushed Aleppo pistachios
- fried pine nuts
Preparation
Using a serrated knife, cut off the brown edges around the toast slices and cut the toast into cubes.
In a medium-sized thick-bottomed pot, place the milk and cornstarch. Stir the milk with a whisk to dissolve the cornstarch and place the pot on medium heat until the milk boils.
Add the bread cubes and stir until you get a thick mixture like cream. Add rose water, mastic, and sugar, then stir until the sugar dissolves.
Pour the mixture into a serving dish. Use the back of a spoon to smooth the surface and place the dish in the refrigerator for several hours.
Garnish with pistachios and pine nuts and serve with honey.
