Milk Pudding with Toast

Ingredients

  • 6 slices of toast
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons rose water
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground mastic
  • 1/4 cup sugar

For serving

  • honey or syrup

For garnishing

  • crushed Aleppo pistachios
  • fried pine nuts

Preparation

  1. Using a serrated knife, cut off the brown edges around the toast slices and cut the toast into cubes.

  2. In a medium-sized thick-bottomed pot, place the milk and cornstarch. Stir the milk with a whisk to dissolve the cornstarch and place the pot on medium heat until the milk boils.

  3. Add the bread cubes and stir until you get a thick mixture like cream. Add rose water, mastic, and sugar, then stir until the sugar dissolves.

  4. Pour the mixture into a serving dish. Use the back of a spoon to smooth the surface and place the dish in the refrigerator for several hours.

  5. Garnish with pistachios and pine nuts and serve with honey.
