Hand-Opened Walnut Baklava
Ingredients
- 3.5 cups flour
- 2 eggs
- 1 tea glass vegetable oil
- 1 tea glass milk
- 1 tablespoon vinegar
- a pinch of salt
- starch for rolling
Syrup
- 4 cups sugar
- 4 cups water
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
Filling
- 3 cups walnut halves
Topping
- 200 grams butter
- 1/2 tea glass vegetable oil
Preparation
First, prepare the syrup: mix sugar and water, bring to a boil, add lemon juice, and simmer for 10 minutes, then let it cool.
For the dough: combine all dough ingredients and knead well, then let it rest for 10 minutes.
Use starch for rolling the dough, divide it into 40 equal pieces, group them into sets of 10, and cover the unused portions to prevent drying.
Roll out each dough piece very thinly using the starch.
Brush a baking tray with the butter-oil mixture.
Layer the thin dough sheets in the tray, brushing each layer with the butter-oil mixture and sprinkling walnuts between layers.
Bake until golden brown.
Pour the cooled syrup over the hot baked baklava and let it absorb before serving.
Notes
This was the cook's first attempt, and they found it surprisingly easy to make.
