Turkish Walnut Revani Dessert

Ingredients

  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup semolina
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup yogurt
  • 1 small coffee cup finely ground walnuts
  • zest of 1 orange
  • 1 packet baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 packet vanilla

Syrup

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 small coffee cup orange juice
  • lemon juice

Preparation

  1. Beat the eggs with sugar until creamy.

  2. Add oil and yogurt and continue beating.

  3. Add orange zest, semolina, sifted flour, and vanilla and mix well with a wooden spoon for 5 minutes.

  4. Add baking powder and walnuts, mix lightly, and pour into a greased baking dish.

  5. Bake in a preheated oven at 160-180 degrees until a toothpick comes out clean.

  6. For the syrup, add 2 cups sugar, 3 cups water, and 1 small coffee cup orange juice to a pot and boil.

  7. After it starts boiling, add a few drops of lemon juice and cook on low heat until thickened, then let it cool.

  8. Pour the syrup over the cold cake when the syrup is lukewarm.

  9. Let it rest for at least 2 hours and serve garnished with walnuts, pistachios, hazelnuts, or clotted cream.

Tips

  1. Slice the cake before pouring the syrup for easier serving. I used a 25 cm pan or a small baking dish. For those who prefer it sweeter, increase the sugar in the syrup to 2.5 cups. Enjoy!
