Crispy Oil-Free Baked Tofu

Ingredients

  • firm tofu (in water tub)

Batter

  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 3/4-1 cup water or milk

Breading

  • 1 cup bread crumbs or panko
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp dried parsley

Preparation

  1. Cube the tofu and bake on a parchment-lined baking sheet at 350°F for 20 minutes. Allow to cool completely.

  2. Preheat the oven to 425°F.

  3. Whisk together the batter ingredients.

  4. Whisk together the breading ingredients.

  5. Dredge the tofu cubes in the batter, then toss in the breading.

  6. Space apart on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

  7. Bake for 15 minutes.

  8. Flip the tofu.

  9. Bake for another 15 minutes until golden brown.

Tips

  1. Baking the tofu first releases moisture without pressing, making it better for cooking in stir-fries.

  2. You can spritz the tofu with oil before the second bake for extra crispiness.
