Sticky Garlic Tofu with Brown Rice

Ingredients

  • 1 block of firm or extra firm tofu – about 350g
  • 2 tbsp of toasted sesame oil
  • 1/2 cup of hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp of Tamari or soy sauce
  • 3 garlic cloves – finely minced

To serve

  • 1 cup of uncooked brown rice
  • 3-4 spring onions finely chopped
  • A generous sprinkle of sesame seeds
  • 1 tsp of chilli flakes (optional)

Preparation

  1. Press the tofu between 2 tea towels to remove the excess water and leave it for 10 minutes under a heavy object.

  2. Chop the tofu into cubes.

  3. In a frying pan on medium heat, add soy sauce, hoisin sauce, and minced garlic and stir well.

  4. Add the tofu cubes and mix to ensure they are coated with the sauce.

  5. Remove from heat, let cool, and place in the fridge for 20 minutes.

  6. Cook the brown rice according to the packaging instructions.

  7. In a frying pan, add sesame oil and heat it, then add tofu cubes in a single layer with the sauce.

  8. Fry for 5 minutes without flipping, then flip and cook for another 5 minutes on the other side.

  9. Add the chopped spring onion at the last minute.

  10. Serve the tofu with cooked brown rice and a generous sprinkle of sesame seeds.
