Sweet and Spicy Tofu with Broccoli
Ingredients
- firm tofu
- arrowroot flour or cornstarch
- oil
- water
- tamari or soy sauce
- honey
- sriracha
- garlic cloves
- broccoli
- rice
- sesame seeds
Tofu components
- 1 tablespoon arrowroot flour or cornstarch (for coating)
- oil (for frying)
Sauce components
- 1 cup water
- 1/4 cup tamari or soy sauce
- 2.5 tablespoons honey
- 2.5 tablespoons sriracha
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tablespoon arrowroot flour
- 1 tablespoon water (for slurry)
Preparation
Press the tofu by removing it from the package, placing it between paper towels, putting a heavy object on top, and storing in the fridge for a couple of hours.
Remove the tofu, pat dry, cut into cubes, and toss with 1 tablespoon arrowroot flour or cornstarch.
Heat oil in a pan and fry the tofu cubes slowly on each side until crispy.
Combine 1 cup water, 1/4 cup tamari or soy sauce, 2.5 tablespoons honey, 2.5 tablespoons sriracha, and 2 minced garlic cloves in a saucepan.
Bring the sauce to a boil and simmer for 5 minutes.
Mix 1 tablespoon arrowroot flour with 1 tablespoon water and stir into the sauce, then remove from heat.
Once the tofu is crispy, add the sauce to the frying pan.
Steam the broccoli.
Cook everything together for 2 more minutes.
Serve over rice and top with sesame seeds.
